Review: This quick and eye-opening read is full of useful concepts, clear examples, and actions you can take right away.

Clarke's clear methodology and examples enabled me to debug, in a couple of weeks, a hidden productivity bottleneck that had resisted my every effort to solve it for over a decade. (It was one of those sneaky "the 'solution" IS the problem" issues.)

In practical value per word, there are few books that top this one. And it's a fun read, too! Highly recommended.

Title: Super useful quick read

Review: I read The Bottleneck Rules on the back of having read Clark Ching's previous novel, Rolling Rocks Downhill. And I have to say this little gem was one of the best reads on flow management that I have ever come across (and yes, I have read The Goal)!

It was quick to read, it was simple to understand, and it was presented as a series of fun stories and anecdotes...too easy!

I thoroughly recommend this for anyone who wants to increase their flow of work, without having to employ a bunch of consultants. Clark reimagines Goldratt's Five Focusing Steps and makes them conceptually simple to understand (yes, maybe a bit harder in practice) regardless of the industry you are in.

Review: Clarke has written an important book here and it is short enough to get through it in a few hours.

Many people don't think about bottlenecks in their daily work. We often fall into the trap of "that's how we've always done it." But with customer expectations increasing, it pays to think about how to reduce the time it takes to meet customer demand, and bottlenecks are a good place to start. When you wait for something it is often that it is stuck in a bottleneck somewhere rather than being actively worked on . Making individuals work harder and faster is really hard. Try getting a 10% performance increase in the speed your kids do the dishes. Resolving bottlenecks can be much easier and performance gains much greater but first you have to find them.

In this concise book Clarke makes good use of examples of bottlenecks that we see every day as well as some more complex business examples. He explains different types of bottlenecks, how to find them and what to do about them.

Title: Simple, to the point, fun

Review: I enjoyed reading this book and it’s direct applicability to delivery teams.

Unlike The Goal, it only focuses on dealing with bottlenecks and provides a clear way to tackle them.

I would say this is a good introduction to Theory of Constraints and should probably be read before The Goal.

Title: A treasure-trove of real world examples in a short and easy read

Review: A great introduction to bottlenecks and the Theory of Constraints and to Clarke Ching's "Rolling Rocks Down Hill". This short read is loaded with real word applicable examples . A great starting point and an updated take on the concepts presented in Eli Goldrat's seminal "The Goal". In this book Clarke presents what he calls the FOCCCUS formula to finding and addressing bottlenecks - helping to direct the readers focus to the the importance of continuous improvement once the initial identification and optimisation have been undertaken. A great read presenting complex concepts in a relaxed and easily digestible style.

Review: Clarke has a gift for simplifying his message and getting straight to the point. This book explains how to deal with bottlenecks, typified by too much work, in a simple and elegant way with some humor thrown in for good measure

Review: I appreciated the examples provided of bottlenecks, facilitating a discussion to "exploit" the bottleneck, and the simplicity in which TOC was presented. It can be easily read in a single sitting.
